Role Overview
Careertakes is supporting a Confidential Client in the Energy, Oil & Gas industry to hire a Mechanical Engineer (On‑Site) in Morris, IL. This role supports nuclear plant operations and is open at Entry, Mid, and Senior levels. The position requires strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, practical problem solving, and familiarity with applicable industry codes and configuration management practices.
What You’ll Do
- Provide in‑depth technical engineering expertise to develop, manage, and implement engineering analyses, programs, and corrective actions supporting nuclear plant operations.
- Investigate and resolve equipment and system problems through technical consultation and hands‑on analysis.
- Manage engineering tasks from scoping through closeout, maintaining configuration control and documentation.
- Prepare plans, specifications, and technical deliverables that comply with standard design criteria, codes, and best practices.
- Perform independent research, studies, and engineering analysis to support projects, outages, or modifications.
- Recommend equipment, design improvements or techniques to improve performance, reduce cost, or address code/regulatory changes.
- Support emergency response, outage activities, and departmental coverage as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Industrial or related).
- 3+ years of nuclear experience or related engineering experience (Entry/Mid/Sr levels vary — see Compensation).
- Must meet the requirements of ANSI/ANS‑3.1‑2014 (Selection, Qualification, and Training of Personnel for Nuclear Power Plants) where applicable.
- Ability to maintain required site access (including medical/fitness-for-duty requirements and background checks).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience producing technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at power plants or in heavy industrial environments.
- Experience with configuration management, formal engineering change control, and nuclear/regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards relevant to mechanical systems in power generation.
Compensation & Benefits
- Entry Level: $87,000 per year
- Mid Level: $92,700 – $114,000 per year
- Senior Level: $122,400 – $154,000 per year
