What You’ll Do
This role supports an engineering team designing next-generation automation and packaging equipment for manufacturing customers. Working as a contract Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute across the product development cycle — from CAD models through prototype testing and product launch.
- Design and develop automation equipment used in packaging, material handling, and warehouse operations
- Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD
- Participate in prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and product validation
- Apply mechanical engineering principles including structural, thermal, and dynamic considerations
- Specify mechanical, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical components and subassemblies
- Support engineering change orders, BOM updates, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and service teams to bring products to market
Who we’re looking for
This position is well suited for recent mechanical engineering graduates or engineers with a few years of hands-on experience who want to grow in automation and machinery design.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply; Associate Degree in Automation Technology plus relevant experience will also be considered
- Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on, practical mindset
- Ability to work collaboratively across functional teams
- Interest in automation, packaging machinery, material handling, and manufacturing technologies
Compensation & Work Type
- Pay: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour (contract assignment)
- Employment type: Contract
- Benefits: Full benefits package including PTO, paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and ESOP eligibility (provided by our client while on assignment)
- This assignment supports a team during an operational transition and offers hands-on exposure to product development. The client is preparing for future expansion and relocation of operations to Illinois.
