Role overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to work in Zeeland, MI. This role focuses on mechanical and automation equipment design, new product development, and customer-facing engineering support. Ideal candidates have 2–5 years of engineering/design experience and hands-on CAD skills (preferably SolidWorks, NX, or Inventor).
What you’ll do
- Work on a variety of equipment and design engineering projects, including new product development and industrial equipment.
- Design automation equipment and sellable industrial (non-automation) equipment.
- Design, prototype, test, and document mechanical designs.
- Support equipment troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities as needed.
- Engage with customers and vendors on-site to provide technical leadership and build strong relationships.
- Lead design reviews and guide technical decision-making across projects.
- Estimate technical tasks, timelines, and project scope for customer engagements.
- Contribute to and improve internal engineering tools, processes, and best practices.
- Provide technical input for proposals and business development activities.
- Mentor entry-level engineers and help build team capabilities.
- Participate in internal projects and stewardship/continuous-improvement teams.
What will make you successful
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 2–5 years of relevant engineering and mechanical design experience.
- Experience with CAD tools — preferably SolidWorks, NX, or Inventor.
- Experience working on complex conceptual designs and familiarity with systems/subsystems.
- Strong problem-solving skills; comfortable working with ambiguous or evolving requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to document work and explain technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Independent, self-starter who also knows when to ask for help.
- Ability to travel to local customer sites is essential; occasional domestic travel may be required.
- Must have the current and continuing right to work in the United States without restrictions or expirations.
