Role overview

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I (Product Development Engineering) to support product design, validation, and production release of cardio and strength fitness equipment. This is a hybrid role based in Ramsey, MN with a schedule that includes remote and in-office collaboration days. The role is ideal for entry-level candidates or engineers with up to 3 years of experience who are strong in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and eager to grow in product design and manufacturability.

What you’ll do

• Design and develop components and assemblies using SolidWorks CAD.
• Create 3D models, detailed 2D drawings, and engineering documentation for manufacturing.
• Support product development from concept through prototype, testing, and validation.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Reliability, Purchasing, and suppliers.
• Develop product specifications, test plans, and timelines.
• Support prototype builds and iterative design improvements.
• Prepare and release production Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues in manufacturing and field operations.
• Travel approximately up to 20% to support supplier visits, prototyping, and production activities.
• Follow mechanical engineering procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Must-have qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 0–3 years of relevant engineering experience (entry-level candidates encouraged).
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software — SolidWorks preferred.
• Comfortable creating 2D production drawings and following drafting standards.
• Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with plastic part design (injection molding considerations: draft, ribs, bosses, wall thickness).
• Familiarity with metal part design (sheet metal, weldments, castings, machined parts, extrusions).
• Exposure to engineering analysis methods (FEA or hand calculations preferred).
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn.
• Effective verbal and written communication and ability to work cross-functionally.

Preferred (not required)

• Internship, co-op, or academic project experience with CAD design.
• Exposure to consumer product or plastic component development.
• Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter).
• Hands-on prototyping/fabrication experience.
• Basic understanding of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles.

Compensation & benefits

• Salary range (U.S. applicants): $70,500 - $100,300 annually.
