Mechanical Engineer I - Electronics Packaging with Security Clearance
The Mechanical Engineer I at Confidential Client supports the design and production of electronics packaging for airborne radar subsystems, including receivers, exciters, processors, and power supplies. This role involves mechanical engineering tasks throughout the hardware life cycle, from concept development to production support, focusing on precision machining and meeting stringent size, weight, power, and cost requirements. The position requires an active DoD Secret security clearance and is based onsite in El Segundo, CA.

What You’ll Do
- Provide mechanical engineering support for electronics packaging across airborne radar subsystems (Receiver, Exciter, Processor, Power Supply).
- Support the hardware lifecycle: concept development, preliminary and detailed design, fabrication method selection, production transition, and installation/production support.
- Design and document electronic enclosures, heat exchangers (coldwalls), machined components, RF microwave assemblies, and power converter housings while optimizing for size, weight, power, and cost.
- Perform design trades from requirements, develop unit concepts, and create technical data packages following established procedures.
- Produce detailed layouts and design documentation using CAD tools and apply ANSI drawing standards and GD&T.
- Interface with lead engineers, suppliers, and production teams to resolve manufacturing and assembly issues and support supplier fabrication.
Qualifications
You must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) or related field.
- Experience with ANSI drawing standards and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances).
- Experience with electronic packaging (may include coursework, projects, research, or on-the-job experience).
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (DoD Secret required). An active clearance after day 1 is required for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with CREO or similar 3D CAD/solid modeling software.
- Exposure to RF principles, RF circuit card design, RF materials, and producibility considerations.
- Experience or exposure to high-frequency environments, enclosure design, EMI shielding, and thermal management.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for CCAs, metal housings, brazements, and experience supporting manufacturing/assembly processes.
- Strong hands-on mechanical project experience and high technical aptitude.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $62,900 - $119,700 USD (good-faith estimate across experience levels).
- Relocation eligible.

Security & Work Authorization
- This role requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. government security clearance (DoD Secret).
- DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services (DCSA CAS) adjudicates the clearance process.
- Candidates may be asked to attend select interview steps in-person at an office location.
