Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to support Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Research & Development (R&D) programs. This role may be based near Fort Belvoir, VA or be performed remotely (telecommute). The position supports Defense Logistics Innovation Research and Military Unique Sustainment Technology projects, collaborating with senior technical staff, program managers, and external partners to plan, execute, and evaluate technical solutions that move R&D toward fielded systems.
What You’ll Do
- Research, design, verify, and validate mechanical and electromechanical systems and components (metals, controls, plastics, hydraulics, heat transfer, etc.).
- Support materials technology, data/system processes, and manufacturing technology evaluation and transition.
- Recommend technology approaches to improve safety, performance, efficiency, and cost for systems, facilities, or processes.
- Coordinate with senior technical resources across multi-disciplinary projects and advise program managers on technical risks and solutions.
- Help plan and review technical plans, test results, and engineering deliverables to meet program objectives.
- Apply engineering tools, standards, and best practices to support DLA R&D initiatives from concept through technical evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (0 years experience acceptable at entry level).
- Preferred: Bachelor’s with ~2 years’ experience, or Master’s degree with relevant academic or project experience.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. SECRET security clearance (must be able to obtain).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
- Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable supporting multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Work Location & Travel
- Location: Fort Belvoir, VA (22060) or Remote (telecommute) within the U.S.
- Travel: Approximately 0–10% required.

Compensation & Benefits
- Anticipated salary range (good-faith estimate): $60,970 – $85,000 per year.
