Overview

Confidential Client is a world leader in automatic balancing and process control solutions for precision grinding equipment. The business designs, manufactures, and supports the SBS system — a reliable in-process dynamic balancing solution used to improve performance and reduce downtime in precision machining.

This entry-level Mechanical Engineer role is hands-on and manufacturing-focused: you will help design custom parts and assemblies, build and test prototypes, and contribute to continuous product and process improvements that move concepts into production.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and modify custom parts, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using 3D CAD (e.g., Autodesk Inventor).
  • Apply appropriate dimensional tolerances, understand tolerance stack-up and GD&T, and design to practical manufacturing limits.
  • Read, interpret, and synthesize technical drawings, customer specifications, and reference materials to develop accurate solutions.
  • Validate designs using simulation tools, hand calculations, and physical prototype testing.
  • Plan and execute engineering experiments; collect and analyze data to inform design choices.
  • Build, test, and rework prototypes and custom tooling using hand tools, soldering, and shop equipment (mills, lathes).
  • Drive product and manufacturing improvements: design fixtures, create clear production instructions, and redesign legacy parts for manufacturability and cost savings.
  • Research and specify off-the-shelf components, hardware, and tooling for integration into assemblies and workflows.
  • Maintain engineering data integrity: organize project files, manage part setups, and document revisions per process standards.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Up to 3 years of relevant experience (including internships, co-ops, academic projects, or part-time work).
  • Hands-on project experience in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD for parts, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), especially for machining and FDM 3D printing.
  • Familiarity with experimental design, data collection, and analytical evaluation.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical collaboration across teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Practical experience with Autodesk Inventor.
  • Hands-on familiarity with basic hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Manual machining experience (milling, lathe) a plus.
  • Exposure to product development, prototyping, testing, or manufacturing process improvement.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently use hands and fingers to handle tools and parts.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Typical noise level: low to moderate.
  • Reasonable accommodations will be considered to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Compensation

  • Estimated pay: $97,938 per year (estimated).
