Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Early Career Mechanical CAD Designer for their Lenexa, KS office. This entry-level role supports mechanical and piping engineering work across industrial and water projects. The ideal candidate will help establish and maintain drafting standards and tools, produce P&IDs and mechanical drawings, learn 3D model navigation for interference checks, and support project deliverables while developing professionally.
What You’ll Do
- Utilize SmartPlant P&ID to draft Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) per direction from design engineers.
- Create mechanical sketches, layouts, and detail drawings to support design packages.
- Produce and check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes, contract requirements, and company standards.
- Learn to navigate 3D models to identify interferences and assess constructability.
- Coordinate with internal and external design partners, construction partners, and equipment suppliers.
- Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project and department objectives.
- Take on progressively more complex tasks as directed by the Lead Designer.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Design & Drafting Technology or related field.
- Familiarity with design software such as SmartPlant, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Inventor, or SolidWorks.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- 0–2 years of industry-related design or CAD experience (entry-level candidates encouraged).
- Strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and a growth mindset.
- Ability to work in a team environment and follow established drafting standards.
Working Conditions & Travel
- Fast-paced office environment; may require sitting, standing, walking, and regular interaction with team members and stakeholders.
- Occasionally lift/move objects up to 30 pounds.
- Travel in the U.S. and internationally approximately 5–15%.
- Regular, reliable attendance; ability to meet deadlines and work overtime/weekends as required.
