Mechanical Designer - Science and Technology
The Mechanical Designer role at Confidential Client is an entry-level position focused on developing foundational mechanical design skills within a collaborative engineering team. The role involves working primarily in Revit to model HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, supporting project documentation, and participating in interdisciplinary coordination and mentorship. What You’ll Do
- Primarily work in Revit to model HVAC, plumbing, and/or fire protection systems from redlines or design guidance provided by project leads.
- Set up mechanical project files and templates in Revit and maintain model organization.
- Design, layout, and coordinate mechanical equipment and components within rooms and plans.
- Participate in mentorship with lead engineers to learn mechanical design principles for the built environment.
- Implement delegated design tasks autonomously as competence grows.
- Develop Tables of Contents for Division 21, 22, and 23 specifications.
- Learn and perform system sizing calculations (e.g., duct static pressure, waste and vent sizing) under guidance.
- Check drawings and models for graphical and coordination issues before deliverable issuance, following Confidential Client’s design standards.
- Support QA/QC efforts as part of the design process.
- Observe client meetings alongside project designers/leads to understand project requirements.
- Attend and actively participate in internal project team meetings.
- Work across multiple project sectors to develop broad mechanical generalist experience.
- Estimate time required to complete assigned tasks and participate in staffing and scheduling discussions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) required.
- Written and verbal communication skills appropriate for collaborating with project teams and clients.
- Strong organizational skills preferred.
- Revit experience preferred; willingness to grow Revit skills required.
- Proficiency with standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, email).
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and curious.
- Able to work collaboratively under deadlines.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally (phone, video conferencing, in-person).
- Visual acuity sufficient to perform duties.
