What You’ll Do
As a Mechanical Design Engineer on the Reactor Internal Design Hardware team you will design reactor modification hardware that supports safe, reliable operation of the Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) fleet. You will work within nuclear quality and regulatory expectations where design choices directly affect plant performance and availability.
- Design reactor modifications and replacement hardware based on product requirements, customer needs, applicable industry codes/standards, and operating environment
- Prepare 3D models and 2D drawings; perform mechanical analyses and produce design specifications to support hardware development
- Collaborate with Tooling, Analysis, Field Deployment, and Services teams to deliver designs that meet nuclear quality and safety requirements
- Lead and participate in design reviews; present concepts and collect engineering feedback from peers and leadership
- Provide technical support through procurement, fabrication, testing and field deployment phases
- Respond to emergent customer issues during outage seasons with rapid design, build, and test support
- Document final designs to demonstrate compliance with application and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
- Demonstrated experience or coursework in mechanical design and drafting (2D drawings and 3D modeling)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a practical, solution-oriented approach to design problems
- Clear oral and written communication skills; ability to present technical work to engineers and non-engineers
- Willingness to support urgent, time-sensitive field work during outages
Preferred / Desired Characteristics
- 3-month relevant research, internship, or co-op experience in mechanical design or related engineering work
- Prior exposure to nuclear quality processes, industry codes, or regulated environments is a plus
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and support field deployment activities
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range (U.S.): $72,000 — $108,000 per year. The employer may apply geographic differentials (110%/120%/130%) depending on location. Final pay offered may vary based on experience, education, and skill set.
