The Opportunity
Confidential Client is seeking a Mechanical Buildings Engineer (Federal) to join multidisciplinary teams delivering architecture and engineering services for U.S. Government clients. This role contributes to HVAC and plumbing design, energy modeling, Revit deliverables, and construction support on new facilities, renovations, and additions. Hybrid work options may be available after an initial onboarding period.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure project compliance with applicable building mechanical codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Produce HVAC and plumbing deliverables: specifications, drawings, load calculations, calculations packages, and basis-of-design documents.
- Create and review Revit deliverables and 2D diagrams (P&IDs, control diagrams, notes).
- Lead or oversee project energy modeling and life-cycle cost analyses using Trace 3D and BLCC.
- Coordinate actively with other disciplines, clients, and contractors.
- Provide construction-period support (review submittals, respond to RFIs, assist with site coordination).
Key Responsibilities
- Apply departmental design guides, standards, and best practices to assigned tasks.
- Prepare engineering calculations and equipment/material selection recommendations.
- Collect, manage, and document project data and design decisions.
- Support continuous improvement and quality programs; follow schedule and budget constraints.
- Assign and mentor entry-level staff and interns; coordinate with project leadership on tasking.
- Communicate with internal and external clients to understand drivers and requirements.
- Contribute technical knowledge to pursuits or business development when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 1 year related mechanical/buildings engineering experience.
- U.S. Citizenship is required (work on U.S. Government projects).
- Ability to complete pre-employment screening (background check, drug screen, MVR) as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HVAC and plumbing design for industrial, commercial, or central plant systems (boilers, chillers, central plants).
- Familiarity with building mechanical codes and accurate load calculations.
- Experience with Revit (MEP), creating construction deliverables and 2D control/diagram drawings.
- Energy modeling and life-cycle cost analysis experience (Trace 3D, BLCC).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred: Federal industry experience, MILCON or Civil Works projects, building controls/automation design, CFD modeling.
Certifications & Licenses
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred; P.E. registration a plus where applicable.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Primarily an office-based role with focused computer work; site visits will require walking, standing, and occasional physical tasks.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be available after the first 90 days based on manager discretion and job requirements.
