Overview

Confidential Client is seeking candidates for the Master-at-Arms (Security & Law Enforcement) rating. This role provides core security, antiterrorism, and law enforcement capability to protect people, installations, ships, and strategic assets both domestically and overseas. Enlistment and military service are required. Training, progressive qualification, and advancement opportunities are provided.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct antiterrorism and force-protection patrols on installations, piers, and other posts.
  • Stand sentry and staff access-control points; control entry to secure areas.
  • Perform vehicle, personnel, and baggage inspections for weapons, contraband, or unauthorized items.
  • Enforce traffic and parking regulations; respond to calls for service and investigate incidents and traffic accidents.
  • Collect, preserve, and document evidence; prepare reports and case files.
  • Provide law-enforcement presence, crowd control, and public-safety support during special events and emergencies.
  • Operate and maintain small arms, crew-served weapons, non-lethal force options, and security vehicles/boats.
  • Support harbor/waterside security, high-value escorts, and expeditionary security missions.
  • Supervise and train junior security personnel in watchstanding, weapons handling, and security procedures.

  • Fast-paced, armed, and safety-critical work requiring sound judgment, attention to detail, and professionalism.
  • Rotating shifts (nights, weekends, holidays) to maintain 24/7 coverage.
  • Exposure to stressful or emergency situations that require calm decision-making and clear communication.
  • Ongoing weapons and use-of-force qualification and recurring tactical and physical-fitness standards.
  • Growth into specialized billets (e.g., patrol supervisor, watch commander, kennel master, investigator).

Work Environment

  • Assignments may include domestic installations, forward-deployed locations, ships at sea, expeditionary units, and strategic facilities.
  • Typical duty locations: bases, piers, flight lines, patrol vehicles, kennels, armories, and security operations centers.
  • Collaboration with other security forces, joint partners, and investigative agencies is common.
  • Opportunities for overseas and sea-duty tours depending on assignment.

Training, Pathways & Advancement

  • Recruit training followed by Master-at-Arms "A" School and on-the-job qualification through unit training and Personnel Qualification Standards.
  • Opportunities for advanced schools and Navy Enlisted Classifications (examples: Military Working Dog Handler, Harbor Security Coxswain, Corrections Specialist, Small Arms Instructor, Protective Service Specialist, Criminal Investigator).
  • Career-long professional development through leadership programs and warfare qualifications where applicable.
  • Reserve and prior-service pathways may be available; conversion from other ratings is possible subject to needs and screening.

Qualifications

  • Eligibility to serve in the U.S. military (citizenship or legal residency/work status as allowed by current policy).
  • High school diploma or equivalent for enlisted entry (officer programs require higher education).
  • Meet age, medical, vision, dental, body-composition, and physical-fitness requirements per enlistment standards.
  • Meet character and conduct standards, including background screening suitable for armed law-enforcement duties.
  • Achieve required test scores for the program (e.g., ASVAB for enlisted roles).
  • Eligibility for a security clearance when required by the billet.

Additional Qualifications (preferred/role-specific)

  • Clean legal history and strong moral character appropriate for armed law-enforcement responsibilities.
  • Ability to qualify with small arms and other assigned weapons.
  • Comfort working in uniformed law-enforcement roles while carrying firearms and equipment for extended periods.
  • Willingness to deploy, accept sea duty, and accept assignments to overseas or dependent-restricted locations when required.
