Overview
Confidential Client is seeking candidates for the Security & Law Enforcement (Master-at-Arms) rating. Master-at-Arms (MA) personnel deliver core security, antiterrorism, and law enforcement capabilities to protect people, installations, ships, and strategic assets. Assignments can be on bases, ships, harbors, and expeditionary environments. This role is a uniformed, armed law-enforcement position that requires military service and meeting applicable enlistment standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct antiterrorism and force-protection patrols on installations, piers, and ships
- Stand sentry and staff access-control posts; manage entry to secure areas
- Perform vehicle, personnel, and baggage inspections for weapons or contraband
- Enforce traffic and parking regulations; respond to calls for service; investigate incidents
- Collect, preserve, and document evidence; prepare reports and case files
- Provide crowd control during events and emergencies
- Operate and maintain small arms, crew-served weapons, non-lethal tools, and security vehicles/boats
- Support harbor/waterside security, high-value escorts, and expeditionary security missions
- Supervise and train junior security personnel in watchstanding, weapons handling, and security procedures

- Rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24/7 coverage
- Exposure to stressful or emergency situations; calm decision-making and clear communication required
- Ongoing qualification and requalification in weapons, use-of-force, tactical skills, and physical fitness

Work Environment
- Assignments at U.S. and overseas installations, aboard aircraft carriers and other ships, and with expeditionary security units
- Primary work locations include bases, piers, flight lines, patrol vehicles, kennels, armories, and security operations centers
- May require sea duty, overseas tours, or deployment to forward locations
- Regular collaboration with other security forces, Marine units, investigative agencies, and host-nation partners depending on billet
Pathways, Training & Advancement
- Recruit training followed by Master-at-Arms "A" School where basic law enforcement, weapons handling, and patrol procedures are taught
- On-the-job qualification through Personnel Qualification Standards and watchstation certification
- Advanced schools and Navy Enlisted Classifications available (examples: Military Working Dog Handler, Harbor Security Coxswain, Corrections Specialist, Small Arms Instructor, Protective Service Specialist, Criminal Investigator)
- Career-long development through leadership courses, warfare qualifications, and senior enlisted programs
- Prior-service conversion and Reserve opportunities may be available depending on prior experience and training
Qualifications
All applicants must meet applicable enlistment standards. Typical requirements include:
- Eligibility to serve in the United States Navy (citizenship or lawful status per current policy)
- High school diploma or equivalent for enlisted positions (officer roles require a bachelor’s or qualifying degree)
- Meet age, medical, vision, dental, and physical fitness standards required by the service
- Satisfactory character and background screening suitable for armed law enforcement duties
- Required test scores (e.g., ASVAB for enlisted programs, or officer qualification tests where applicable)
- Eligibility for security clearance when required by the billet
Additional qualifications for this job may include clean legal history, ability to qualify with small arms and other weapons, and willingness to accept rotating shifts, deployments, and sea or overseas assignments.
Education, Pay & Benefits
- Education benefits are available via standard military programs (Tuition Assistance, Post-9/11 GI Bill, ACE-recommended credits, Navy COOL, USMAP apprenticeships, etc.). Specific options depend on status and policy.
- Estimated pay: $72,186 per year (estimated). Exact pay, allowances, special pays, and benefits depend on component (Active/Reserve), paygrade, years of service, and current law and policy.
- Standard military health, retirement, and other benefits apply as determined by component and service rules.
