Position overview

Confidential Client is seeking candidates for the role of Security & Law Enforcement (Master-at-Arms) based in Baltimore, MD. This is a full-time, armed security and law-enforcement position that combines patrol, access control, investigations, weapons qualification, and training responsibilities. Prior law-enforcement, corrections, or security experience may qualify some applicants for advanced paygrades.


Overview

Master-at-Arms (MA) personnel provide core security, antiterrorism, and law-enforcement capability to protect people, installations, vessels, and strategic assets both domestically and overseas. Duties include force protection, physical security, base and waterfront policing, and specialized assignments such as military working dog handling, corrections, investigations, harbor security, and protective services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct antiterrorism and force-protection patrols on installations, piers, and waterfronts
  • Staff sentry and access-control posts; control entry to secured areas
  • Perform vehicle, personnel, and baggage inspections to detect weapons, contraband, or unauthorized items
  • Enforce traffic and parking regulations; respond to calls for service; investigate incidents and traffic accidents
  • Collect and preserve evidence; prepare reports and case files for administrative or criminal processing
  • Provide crowd control and law-enforcement presence at events and emergency incidents
  • Operate and maintain small arms, crew-served weapons, non-lethal weapons, security vehicles, and boats
  • Support harbor/waterside security, high-value unit escorts, and expeditionary security missions
  • Supervise and train junior security force personnel in watchstanding, weapons handling, and security procedures

What to expect

Work is fast-paced and safety-critical, requiring attention to detail, sound judgment, and professionalism. Expect rotating shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays) to provide 24/7 security coverage. You may be exposed to stressful situations (emergencies, accidents, or criminal activity) that require calm decision-making and strong communication. Ongoing weapons, use-of-force, tactical, and fitness requalification is standard, and responsibilities increase over time with specialized billets and leadership roles.


Work environment

Assignments may include installations in the U.S. and overseas, onboard ships and carriers, and with expeditionary security units. Typical worksites include bases, piers, flight lines, patrol vehicles, kennels, armories, and security operations centers. Deployments, sea duty, and close coordination with other security forces, investigators, and host-nation partners are possible depending on assignment.


Pathways, training & advancement

  • Recruit training followed by Master-at-Arms Class “A” School (service training location) to learn basic law enforcement, weapons handling, antiterrorism, patrol procedures, and security operations
  • Progressive on-the-job qualification via Personnel Qualification Standards and watchstations
  • Advanced schools and specialty qualifications (e.g., working dog handler, harbor security coxswain, corrections specialist, small arms instructor, crew-served weapons instructor, protective services specialist, criminal investigator)
  • Career development through leadership courses, warfare qualifications, and senior enlisted leader programs
  • Reserve and prior-service conversion opportunities may exist and are subject to screening and qualification requirements

Qualifications

All applicants must meet general enlistment or service standards; typical requirements include:

  • Eligibility to serve in the United States (citizenship or legal status per current policy) and, for many billets, eligibility for a security clearance
  • High school diploma or equivalent for enlisted positions (officer programs require a bachelor’s or qualifying degree)
  • Meeting applicable age limits for the chosen program
  • Meeting medical, vision, dental, body composition, and physical fitness standards
  • Meeting character and conduct standards, including background screening and legal eligibility to carry firearms
  • Achieving required test scores (e.g., ASVAB or other program-specific tests)

Additional role-specific qualifications:

  • Strong moral character and a conduct record appropriate for armed law-enforcement duties
  • Ability to qualify with small arms and other required weapons systems
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, deploy, and accept sea-duty or overseas assignments as required

  • Estimated pay: $70,472 per year (estimated)
  • Pay, allowances, health coverage, retirement, and other entitlements follow standard policies for the client’s active and reserve components. Exact entitlements and special pays depend on rank, component, years of service, and current law and guidance.
