Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Marketing & Publicity Assistant to support publicity outreach, digital and social media marketing, and influencer efforts for adult commercial fiction. This Marketing & Publicity Assistant role in New York, NY (primary listing) will help promote bestselling novels across genres and support day-to-day campaign operations — ideal for someone with 1–2 years of publishing-related experience, strong organization, and enthusiasm for book marketing.


What You’ll Do

  • Help get books into the hands of editors, influencers, and readers through coordinated publicity and marketing activities.
  • Manage ARC and finished-copy mailings (media & influencer mailings), Goodreads giveaways, and other promotional distributions.
  • Support consumer marketing: assist with social media posting, community engagement, and creation of simple marketing assets.
  • Coordinate author travel and event logistics; maintain itineraries and coordinate author tour details.
  • Maintain marketing assets, inventory, campaign materials, and shared files to keep the team organized.
  • Provide administrative and project support to ensure campaigns stay on schedule.
  • Support media outreach: coordinate trade review submissions, maintain media lists, and assist with seasonal catalog pitches.

What You’ll Bring

  • 1–2 years of publishing or closely related experience preferred (internships, freelance, bookstore/library, campus literary publications count).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for commercial fiction and book publicity/marketing.
  • Interest in social media and influencer marketing; some experience with community engagement a plus.
  • Comfortable collaborating across departments and supporting cross-functional projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or social media scheduling tools is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for author events, conferences, and book festivals.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Location, Schedule & Compensation

  • Work locations: Confidential Client’s headquarters in Naperville, IL or office in New York, NY. This role requires being in-office 3–4 days per week.
  • Employment type: Non-exempt hourly position. Contract assignment / Full-time schedule (as listed).
  • Pay: $22.00–$25.00 per hour. Starting pay is determined by job-related factors including geographic location, market conditions, experience, training, and education.
