What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Marine Mechanical Engineer to support design, analysis, and integration of marine mechanical systems for naval and maritime platforms. This role contributes to ship design, system development, and lifecycle engineering efforts while working under direct supervision or as part of project teams.
- Works independently with direct supervision, or as part of project teams
- Performs engineering calculations using mechanical principles, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
- Develops analyses and prepares technical reports and engineering documentation
- Designs and performs calculations for ship propulsion and auxiliary systems; prepares purchase specifications for major equipment
- Develops and documents test procedures to verify equipment and system performance
- Supports engineering for systems including main and auxiliary propulsion, fuel and lubrication systems, seawater and fresh water systems, and HVAC systems
- Uses CAD and engineering analysis tools to produce designs and drawings
Qualifications
Basic requirements to be considered for this position:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Foundational understanding of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, fluid systems, or shipboard systems
- Experience with CAD and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
Helpful background and credentials that strengthen an application:
- Internship, co-op, academic project, or early-career experience in marine, naval, or defense engineering
- Familiarity with ship design, piping, HVAC, propulsion support systems, or auxiliary mechanical systems
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineering licensure
- Proficiency with industry-standard CAD and engineering analysis software
- Exposure to U.S. Navy, shipbuilding, or maritime industry standards
Work Environment & Location
- Location: Full-time onsite in Newport News, VA (Newport News is the authoritative job location)
- Some travel may be required to support customers and contracts (approximately 10%)
- Position supports defense/maritime programs and requires the ability to obtain a security clearance
- Open to flexible working arrangements after establishing experience in the role
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $57,850.00 - $104,575.00 per year (range provided by the source posting; actual offer will consider experience, education, skills, and internal equity)
