What You’ll Do
This entry-level Marine Mechanical Engineer will support the design, analysis, and integration of marine mechanical systems for naval and maritime platforms on behalf of a confidential client in the maritime & defense engineering sector.
- Perform mechanical engineering calculations and apply engineering principles, procedures, and criteria.
- Develop ship propulsion and auxiliary system calculations and preliminary designs.
- Prepare technical purchase specifications for major mechanical equipment.
- Create engineering analyses, technical reports, and other documentation.
- Develop and document test procedures to verify equipment and system performance.
- Support engineering efforts for systems including main and auxiliary propulsion, fuel, lubrication, seawater/freshwater systems, and HVAC systems.
- Work independently with direct supervision and as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education) in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Foundational understanding of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, fluid systems, or shipboard systems.
- Experience with CAD tools and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in team environments.
- Willingness to obtain required security clearances as needed for customer contracts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship, co-op, academic project, or early-career experience in marine, naval, shipbuilding, or defense engineering.
- Familiarity with ship design, piping systems, HVAC, propulsion support, or auxiliary mechanical systems.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or progressing toward Professional Engineering (PE) credentials.
- Proficiency with industry-standard CAD and engineering analysis software.
- Exposure to U.S. Navy or maritime industry standards and processes.
Work Environment & Expectations
- Employment type: Contract (full-time).
- Location: Full time onsite in Newport News, VA; flexible arrangements may be considered after establishing experience.
- Travel: Approximately 10% travel to support customers and contracts.
- This role supports defense and maritime programs; candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range (posted): $57,850 — $104,575 per year.
- The posted range is a guideline. Final offers consider experience, education, skills, internal equity, and applicable law.
