What You’ll Do

This Manager Trainee role is an entry-level management position in logistics and fleet operations. Under general supervision you will be trained to manage a small driver group and non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends), ensure safe and timely freight movement, assign loads, support DOT compliance, and deliver excellent customer service. This is a hands-on role that combines people leadership, operational planning, and administrative tasks.

  • Learn to assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movement to meet customer schedules and safety requirements
  • Build strong relationships with drivers, outside carriers, and customers to ensure reliable service and minimize turnover
  • Support DOT compliance and maintain a strong safety culture through briefings, training, and enforcement of policies
  • Assist with administrative duties including payroll, invoicing, P&L review, reporting, and driver counseling
  • Participate in yard and equipment checks, coordinate maintenance, and help resolve mechanical/service issues

Responsibilities

  • Train under experienced managers to manage driver schedules, load planning, and route optimization
  • Support carrier onboarding, set-up, and ongoing carrier relations to maintain service quality
  • Help prepare and present customer-specific reporting and financial analysis when needed
  • Assist with inventory, asset management, and driver/asset assignment to balance fleet resources
  • Fill in for absent team members and contribute to projects that improve operational efficiency and profitability
  • Be available for on-call issues and work across multiple shifts as business needs require

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field — OR — High school diploma/GED plus 1 year of relevant experience (management, logistics, account management) or equivalent military experience
  • Willingness to work nights/weekends and travel to customer/account locations as required
  • Willingness to regionally relocate depending on account assignment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience managing or supervising a team (even at entry level)
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills; ability to analyze situations and act with informed judgment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build working relationships with drivers, vendors, and customers
  • Ability to adapt to changing operational environments and prioritize competing demands

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation note: Starting pay may vary based on skills, experience, education, geography, and other candidate-specific factors. This role may be eligible for annual bonus and incentive rewards based on profitability and operational metrics.
