Manager Trainee

What You’ll Do
This Manager Trainee role will learn day-to-day management of small driver groups and non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends) to ensure safe, timely freight movement and excellent customer service. You will be trained on DOT compliance and will work with drivers, carriers, customers, and internal teams to support planning, routing, monitoring, and delivery of freight.
- Learn to build and maintain effective professional relationships with drivers and external carriers to support onboarding, reduce turnover, and improve productivity.
- Support operations when personnel are absent and participate in special projects to optimize fleet efficiency and profitability.
- Assist with driver training, orientation, and support for internal and customer systems.
- Help measure KPIs, prepare customer reports and financial analyses, and recommend process improvements.
- Learn inventory, asset, and driver assignment management to maintain balance across markets.
- Perform administrative tasks under supervision: payroll support, budget tracking, driver counseling documentation, accident review assistance, invoicing, and operational/financial reporting.
- Support yard operations: inspect equipment, coordinate minor repairs and maintenance scheduling.
- Help resolve service issues, routing or mechanical problems, and freight exceptions during operations and while on-call.
- Promote and maintain the company safety culture through safety messaging, briefings, training, and enforcement of DOT/company policies.
- Assist with load assignment, routing and monitoring freight movement to meet customer requirements and maintain on-time service.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; equivalent combination of education, experience, and training will be considered.
- Candidates may be enrolled in degree programs (up to 2 years) or hold a Bachelor’s degree; ability and willingness to work multiple shifts including nights/weekends may be required.
- This position is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree plus at least 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent education/training.
- Prior exposure to transportation, logistics, or fleet operations is helpful but not required.

Compensation & Benefits
- Starting pay range: $46,200.00 – $69,300.00 per year. Factors affecting starting pay may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications.
- This role may be eligible for annual bonus and incentive programs subject to company plan terms.
- Typical full-time benefits (subject to eligibility): medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, short- and long-term disability, paid time off (vacation and sick), six weeks paid maternity leave, two weeks paid parental leave, and six paid holidays annually.
Work Location, Hours & Travel
- Location: Tracy, CA (role supports local account/customer locations; some travel to customer or company events may be required).
- Schedule may include evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call responsibilities depending on business needs.
