What You’ll Do
This Manager Trainee role is an entry-level management track in logistics and fleet operations. You will be trained to manage a small driver count and/or non-traditional shifts, support DOT compliance, and help ensure the safe and timely movement of freight. Expect a mix of hands-on operational work, people management, and administrative duties aimed at preparing you for a frontline operations or account management role.
- Learn to assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movement to meet customer requirements and on-time delivery goals.
- Support driver management: onboarding, training, safety messaging, counseling, and compliance with DOT and company policies.
- Help manage yard operations and equipment inspections; coordinate maintenance and safety-related repairs.
- Assist with payroll, invoicing, P&L review, and creating operational and customer-specific reports.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with drivers, carriers, and customers to minimize turnover and improve service.
- Participate in special projects to optimize fleet operations, measure KPIs, and recommend continuous improvements.
- Be available for occasional on-call responsibilities and flexible scheduling, including nights and weekends.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field OR High School Diploma/GED plus 1 year of relevant experience (management, transportation/logistics, account management), or equivalent military experience.
- Ability to work flexible shifts (including nights and weekends) and travel to customer or account locations when required.
- Willingness to regionally relocate depending on account assignment.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and basic financial literacy (P&L, invoicing).
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience managing a team or supervising others.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and logistics operations.
- Ability to analyze situations, resolve conflicts, and make informed operational decisions.
- Customer-service orientation and ability to maintain productive relationships with vendors, clients, and internal teams.
- Comfort using operational systems and generating reports to track performance and profitability.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting pay range (expected): $50,700 – $63,400 per year.
- Compensation may vary based on skills, education, experience, and geography. Role may be eligible for annual bonuses or incentives per the client’s plans.
- Benefits for full-time employees may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, short- and long-term disability, paid time off (vacation/sick), paid parental leave, and paid holidays — subject to eligibility and client policies.
