What You’ll Do
This is an entry-level Manager Trainee role in logistics and fleet operations supporting a confidential client. Under general supervision, you will learn to manage a small driver base and non-traditional shifts (including nights/weekends), ensure safe and timely movement of freight, assign loads, and support DOT compliance and customer service requirements.
- Learn to assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service.
- Train with and support drivers, outside carriers, and account contacts to ensure compliance with DOT and company policies.
- Assist with driver scheduling and on-call support for service exceptions, mechanical issues, and routing challenges.
- Support yard management activities including equipment checks, basic repairs coordination, and preventative maintenance scheduling.
- Perform and learn administrative duties: payroll support, invoicing, creating and maintaining operational/financial reports, and assisting with P&L analysis.
- Support carrier setup, onboarding, and retention efforts to maintain reliable network capacity.
- Participate in driver safety programs (daily safety messages, briefings, quarterly training) and support a strong safety culture.
- Fill in for absent personnel and contribute to projects that improve fleet efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with drivers, carriers, customers, and internal teams.
- Support training, orientation, and coaching of drivers and other staff.
- Monitor key performance indicators and assist in preparing customer-specific reporting and analysis.
- Help manage inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment and capacity in the market.
- Assist in resolving pay issues, accident reviews, and driver counseling when required.
- Work with maintenance and vendors to ensure safety-related mechanical issues are addressed promptly.
- Recommend operational improvements to drive efficiency and profitability.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required. Candidates with some college or a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and weekends when needed.
- Willingness to travel to customer, account, and company event locations when applicable.
- This position is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree or progress toward one (business, supply chain, logistics, transportation preferred).
- 1+ year of related experience or equivalent training in logistics, operations, customer service, or related fields.

- Detail-oriented with basic financial literacy (able to assist with P&L review and reporting).

Compensation & Benefits
- Expected starting pay: $46,200 – $69,300 per year (actual starting pay may vary based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications).
- Opportunity for annual bonuses and incentives based on profitability or volume, where applicable.

Location & Schedule
- Primary work location: Cudahy / South Gate area, CA (onsite and in-market travel required).
- Shift work may include nights and weekends depending on operational needs.
