Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Manager Trainee to learn day-to-day fleet and operations management for logistics accounts in Commerce, CA. This is an entry-level leadership development role focused on freight movement, DOT compliance, load assignment, driver support, and continuous improvement of regional operations.
What You’ll Do
- Learn to manage a small driver count and/or non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends) to ensure safe, on-time freight movement.
- Support load planning, routing, monitoring, and delivery activities to meet customer requirements.
- Be trained on DOT and company compliance for drivers and equipment.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with drivers, third‑party carriers, customers, and internal teams.
- Assist with driver training and orientation, and support use of customer and internal systems.
- Participate in yard and equipment checks and coordinate maintenance as needed.
- Support administrative duties including payroll, invoicing, P&L review, and other operational reporting.
- Cover absent personnel and support special projects aimed at improving fleet efficiency and profitability.
- Participate in safety culture activities: daily safety messages, driver briefings, and quarterly training.
Responsibilities
- Assign loads, plan routes, and monitor shipments — adjust driver ETAs and respond to freight exceptions.
- Support driver compliance reviews, accident reviews, and driver counseling processes.
- Collect and present customer-specific reporting and financial analysis when required.
- Help manage inventory, assets and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market.
- Recommend process improvements using KPI tracking and operational metrics.
- Coordinate with maintenance and vendors to ensure safety-related mechanical issues are resolved promptly.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field — OR High School Diploma/GED with 1 year of relevant experience (management, transportation/logistics, account management, business administration), or equivalent military experience.
- Willingness to work multiple shifts, including nights and weekends when needed.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer/account locations and regionally relocate based on account assignment.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

- Prior experience managing a team or supervising staff.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze situations and make informed decisions.
- Ability to anticipate and resolve operational or process problems.
- Comfort building productive relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities.
Compensation & Benefits
- Expected starting pay range: $53,000 - $66,200 per year. Factors affecting offer: skills, education, experience, geography, and qualifications.
- This role may be eligible for annual bonuses and incentives in accordance with company plans.

Location & Travel
- Work location: Commerce, CA (on-site and regional travel as required).
- Travel to customer and company events may be required.
- Shifts may include nights and weekends based on account needs.
