What You’ll Do

This Manager Trainee role is an entry-level management training position supporting fleet and account operations in a logistics and warehouse environment. You will learn to manage small driver counts and non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends), ensure safe and timely freight movement, assign loads, and deliver strong customer service while being trained for DOT compliance and operational best practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Learn to build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and outside carriers to support carrier set-up, minimize turnover, and maximize productivity
  • Assist on special projects and step in for absent personnel to help optimize fleet operations and profitability
  • Support personnel management tasks including driver and employee training, orientation, and use of internal and customer systems
  • Learn to measure and report on key performance indicators, prepare customer-specific reporting, and support financial analysis
  • Assist with inventory, asset management, and driver assignment to balance equipment and service levels
  • Perform and learn administrative duties such as payroll support, budget tracking, driver counseling documentation, accident reviews, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and operational reporting
  • Support yard management: equipment checks, minor repairs coordination, and preventive maintenance scheduling
  • Work with drivers, customers, and internal teams to resolve service issues, routing and planning problems, mechanical issues, and accessorial pay matters (including on-call situations)
  • Support and reinforce the company’s safety culture via daily safety messages, briefings, training, and DOT policy enforcement
  • Learn to assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service and manage freight exceptions and ETA adjustments

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field OR High School Diploma/GED plus 1 year of relevant experience (management, transportation/logistics, business administration, account management), or equivalent military experience
  • Ability and willingness to work variable shifts including nights and weekends when required
  • Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable
  • Willingness to regionally relocate depending on account assignment

  • Strong conflict recognition and resolution skills
  • Sound analytical and decision-making ability
  • Adaptability in changing environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain productive relationships with clients, vendors, and peers
  • Customer-service orientation and ability to meet team/driver expectations
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills across multiple mediums
  • Aptitude for recognizing and resolving operational or process issues

Compensation & Benefits

  • Expected starting pay range: $53,000 - $66,200 per year. Actual starting pay will be determined based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other job-related factors.
  • May be eligible for annual bonuses and incentives based on profitability or volume in accordance with applicable bonus plans.

Benefit eligibility and terms are subject to applicable plan rules and employer policies.

  • Location: Bell Gardens, CA
  • Employment type: Full-time (training into management responsibilities)
  • Schedule: May require nights, weekends, and on-call coverage. Regional travel and possible relocation depending on account assignment.
