Software Engineer
This role is a managerial position in software engineering focused on leading the design, development, and delivery of advanced imaging systems critical to national defense. The manager will drive software development best practices, mentor engineering teams, collaborate cross-functionally, and contribute to proposal and program management activities. What You’ll Do
This is a senior engineering leadership role responsible for driving software design, development, and team performance for imaging and embedded software systems used in mission-critical environments.
- Lead software design and development activities including requirements analysis, specifications, architecture, implementation, and validation.
- Drive and improve engineering processes and best practices; run code and design reviews.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering managers (Electrical, Systems) and program leadership to optimize assignments and deliverables across the organization.
- Define and establish development processes and standards to increase team productivity and product quality.
- Mentor, coach, and develop engineers—conduct performance reviews and support career growth.
- Participate in hands-on development as needed to accelerate delivery.
- Own recruiting, interviewing, and hiring for software engineering roles on your team.
- Contribute to engineering proposal cost estimation and Basis of Estimate (BoE) activities.
- Manage manpower allocation in a matrixed organization and coordinate resource planning.
Qualifications
Required minimum qualifications:
- US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (additional clearances may be required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software, Computer, or Electrical Engineering plus a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience. A Master’s degree plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is acceptable. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 16 years of relevant experience is required.
- Broad management and leadership experience capable of leading cross-department project teams or managing across functions.
- Experience recruiting, interviewing, and hiring technical talent.
- Experience developing technical and cost volume inputs for proposals and supporting BoE generation.
- Experience with Cost Account Manager responsibilities, EVMS, and program execution lifecycle.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience working in Agile development environments; Scrum certification or equivalent experience is a plus.
- Prior experience leading proposal development and Basis of Estimate generation.
- Development experience in one or more of: real-time embedded software, information assurance, video communications, embedded interfaces (I2C, RS232, CAN, Ethernet), or safety-critical systems.
- Familiarity with DevOps processes, tools, and automation.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $148,000–$205,000 (in compliance with pay-transparency requirements). This range is not a guarantee of compensation; final offers may vary based on experience, location, and other factors.

Location & Clearance
- Work location: Northampton, MA (role supports mission-critical defense programs).
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain/maintain required government security clearances. Candidates may be subject to government background investigations.
