Position summary
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Machining Engineer based in Whitakers, NC. This hands-on role supports the planning, design, purchase and implementation of machining processes and equipment. Ideal candidates are recent STEM graduates or equivalent with foundational exposure to GD&T, CNC programming and manufacturing problem solving.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with planning, designing and implementing machining processes and equipment for production.
- Determine required parts, tooling and setups to meet product specifications while reducing changeover time.
- Support equipment engineering evaluations and document results; recommend improvements to designs or procedures.
- Create and maintain process documentation and standard work for manufacturing operations.
- Support machine programming and tooling selection for material removal processes.
- Work cross-functionally (manufacturing, quality, design engineering) to troubleshoot product and process issues.
- Apply dimensional metrology and GD&T to support measurement systems and inspection processes.
- Support capital/equipment selection consistent with project requirements and safety standards.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills to partner across functions.
- Apply health & safety fundamentals, including machine-guarding standards.
- Interpret engineering drawings to develop compliant manufacturing processes.
- Select cutting materials, tooling and processes to meet product needs at competitive cost.
- Design measurement processes that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Use continuous improvement tools to improve equipment availability and capability.
- Produce clear, sequenced process documentation followed by stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Mechanical Engineering preferred; Electrical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering also considered) or equivalent experience.
- Entry-level (designed for candidates within ~2 years of degree completion).
- Foundational experience or coursework in:
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- CNC programming
- Basic quality control and manufacturing problem solving
- Strong interest in hands-on machining, metrology and process improvement.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Location & Employment Type
- Required work location: On-site in Whitakers, NC with potential scheduling flexibility.
- Employment type: Full-time, Entry Level.
- Start date: Jan 2027 (per client timeline).
Compensation
- Estimated annual pay (as listed by source): $78,196 (estimated). Actual compensation will be determined by Confidential Client and will comply with applicable state and federal pay disclosure rules.
