Role Summary
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level M/E Engineer (M/E Engineer 1) to support mechanical, electrical, and field-construction activities for advanced facilities projects. This role focuses on learning and supporting estimating, systems analysis, bid activity, and commissioning tasks while following established safety and quality standards.
Estimated compensation: $164,655 per year (estimated).
Key Responsibilities — Core
- Learns and supports all aspects of the company's safety and quality programs; demonstrates commitment to an injury-free environment.
- Completes entry-level and routine mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities under supervision.
- Assists in developing budgetary M/E estimates using program and schematic design information with automated M/E estimating tools.
- Supports review of mechanical and electrical options during preconstruction and completes systems analysis for assigned projects.
- Helps develop mechanical and electrical scopes of work for coordination and bidding.
- Assists with bid analysis and provides input for subcontractor selection.
- Supports sequencing of systems to meet schedule requirements and identifies constructability issues.
- Participates in job inspections to verify compliance with specifications and quality expectations.
- Assists with shop drawing/submittal processes to align with contract documents.
- Supports the commissioning process: prepares pre-functional checklists, assists with functional test procedures, and participates in functional testing.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide timely, accurate data collection and documentation to support estimating and preconstruction decisions.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners to support coordinated project delivery.
- Escalate exceptions or deviations to supervisors and follow established workflows.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform accurate, complete work and meet deadlines.
- Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Familiarity with basic M/E construction tools and estimating software (training provided).
- Understanding of construction means and methods and constructability principles.
- Strong teamwork and relationship-building skills.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field (required).
- Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 0–2 years construction experience and/or internship/co-op experience in construction is preferred.
Working Environment & Logistics
- Full-time position based in Kansas City, MO. Travel to job sites and occasional field presence required depending on project needs.
