What You’ll Do

This Loan Officer II - Business Lending role supports originating, managing, and closing business and commercial lending opportunities with an emphasis on inbound small business requests. You will act as the primary point of contact for assigned borrowers, support the loan lifecycle from initial discovery through closing, and manage an assigned portfolio to grow long-term relationships and deposit/treasury opportunities for the Confidential Client.

  • Originate inbound business lending and commercial loan opportunities.
  • Serve as primary relationship contact for assigned business borrowers through application, underwriting, closing, and post-close relationship management.
  • Conduct borrower discovery calls to gather business background, ownership, financing needs, repayment sources, and collateral information.
  • Review, organize, and present borrower-provided financials to support underwriting.
  • Structure loans aligned with lending policies, risk appetite, and production goals.
  • Coordinate with underwriting, processing, closing, servicing, and other internal teams to ensure a smooth member experience.
  • Maintain an active pipeline and achieve unit-based production targets focused on closed loans.
  • Manage an existing portfolio: conduct relationship reviews, identify cross-sell and referral opportunities, and support member retention.
  • Ensure loan documentation compliance including collateral perfection and lien positions.
  • Use internal systems (for example: Sageworks, JHA) to track and manage loan activity and documentation.
  • Support risk management, controls, and a strong compliance environment.
  • Participate in community and professional activities to build referral networks and business visibility.
  • Continuously learn commercial credit skills with a development path toward handling more complex commercial loans.

Who You Are / Qualifications

Minimum qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a financial institution focused on business banking, commercial banking, or related financial services with demonstrable experience developing deposit and loan portfolios.
  • Formal credit training completed or actively in progress at time of application.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; professional borrower-facing communication experience.
  • Proven ability to manage a pipeline, prioritize follow-up, and maintain high organization through the loan process.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to learn and use credit union processing systems (JHA, Sageworks, or similar).
  • Strong problem solving, interpersonal skills, and a team-oriented work ethic.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior business lending/commercial lending or SBA lending experience.
  • Experience with commercial credit analysis, small business lending, and loan closing coordination.
  • Prior experience with Sageworks, JHA, or similar financial systems.

Work Arrangement & Physical Demands

  • This role supports a hybrid/telecommute work arrangement; employees working from home must have reliable business-grade internet and a dedicated workspace capable of video calls.
  • May require flexible hours including mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; extended periods of sitting or standing and computer work.

Compensation & Benefits
