What You’ll Do

Confidential Client seeks a motivated Linux Systems Support Engineer to join a 24/7 support organization that sustains mission-critical systems. This role supports Linux-based and containerized environments, provides help-desk and remote troubleshooting to fielded systems, and helps the development team with testing and entry-level scripting.

  • Assist development teams with software release testing: run test cases, create bug tickets, diagnose issues.
  • Troubleshoot and support mission-critical systems in Linux-based environments and containerized applications.
  • Provide end-user support via phone, email, and Microsoft Teams — including configuration changes, patching, and functionality testing.
  • Install, configure, and support fielded systems; respond to and resolve incidents in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain documentation: configuration guides, troubleshooting procedures, and knowledge-base articles.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of support processes and tooling.
  • Complete entry-level to intermediate scripting and coding tasks to support automation and testing.

Who You Are / Required Qualifications

To comply with U.S. federal hiring requirements for this role and operate safely with mission systems, candidates must meet the following:

  • U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Final Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field plus 2 years of relevant experience — OR 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience providing configuration support and remote troubleshooting for users (software and network).
  • Experience with software testing support and documenting issues/resolutions.
  • Familiarity with support tools and ticketing workflows (tracking issues, closing tickets).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 support environment and coordinate with development teams.

Note: This role is remote-eligible (telecommute) but requires U.S. citizenship and clearance; the position may involve fielded-system support and occasional on-site work per program needs.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Red Hat or other Linux distributions.
  • Exposure to Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, or other container orchestration platforms.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and GitLab.
  • Prior experience as a systems administrator or in a service-desk environment.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networks and network troubleshooting.
  • Scripting experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills.
  • Desire and ability to pursue IAT Level II Certification.

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay range (provided by Confidential Client): $69,550 — $125,725 per year.
  • Competitive benefits may include health & wellness programs, income protection, paid leave, and retirement plans. Exact benefits and final compensation depend on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

Location & Work Model

  • Authoritative listing location: Redstone Arsenal, AL.
  • This posting is telecommute/remote-eligible; remote work still requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain required security clearance. Occasional on-site or field support may be required based on program needs.
