Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Linux Systems Support Engineer to provide 24/7 operational and help-desk support for mission‑critical systems. This role supports Linux-based environments and containerized applications, provides remote troubleshooting for end users, assists development teams with release testing, and maintains system documentation. The position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Final Secret clearance.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist development teams with software release testing: run test cases, create and track bug tickets, and diagnose issues.
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for mission‑critical systems, focusing on Linux environments and containerized applications.
  • Deliver end‑user support via phone, email and Teams; remote troubleshooting for software, configuration, network issues, patching, and functionality testing.
  • Perform system installation, configuration, and fielded‑system support.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, configuration guides, troubleshooting procedures, and knowledge‑base articles.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of support processes and tools.
  • Complete entry‑level to intermediate scripting and coding tasks to assist development teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field plus 2 years of relevant experience; OR 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Final Secret clearance.
  • Experience providing configuration support and remote troubleshooting to end users.
  • Experience with software testing and documentation of issues and resolutions.
  • Familiarity with support tools, ticketing systems, and process refinement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Red Hat or other Linux distributions.
  • System administration experience and prior service‑desk or help‑desk work using ticket systems.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, and exposure to GitLab.
  • Familiarity with Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, or other container platforms.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networks and network troubleshooting.
  • Scripting experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Strong attention to detail, independent troubleshooting skills, and strong documentation/communication skills.
  • Willingness/ability to acquire IAT Level II Certification.

Work Location & Clearance

  • Location: Huntsville, AL (role is remote‑enabled while supporting fielded systems; candidate must be located in the U.S. and eligible for required clearance).
  • Clearance: Final Secret (ability to obtain and maintain required clearance is mandatory).

Compensation

  • Pay Range (provided by source): $69,550.00 — $125,725.00 per year. Actual offer will consider experience, skills, and internal equity.
