What You’ll Do

This is an entry-level to early-career Lighting Designer role supporting building and interior projects across a multidisciplinary design practice. You will work collaboratively with architects, engineers, and interior designers to translate design intent into documented, energy-code-compliant lighting solutions.

• Develop lighting design solutions and collaborate with the design team
• Produce lighting layouts and documentation in Revit
• Perform photometric calculations using AGI32 or LightStanza (or similar)
• Implement energy-code-compliant designs and prepare code calculations
• Define lighting control intent and document control strategies and specifications
• Create luminaire schedules and collect product specification sheets
• Prepare presentation materials, renderings, and graphic packages
• Participate in mock-ups and on-site reviews as needed
• Write reports and contribute to project deliverables

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

• Can-do approach and strong teamwork skills
• Competent knowledge of and proficiency with Revit
• Experience or familiarity with BIM tools (SketchUp, Enscape, Navisworks, Rhino, Lumion)
• Working knowledge of applicable building and energy codes and how to apply them
• Ability to produce appropriate lighting drawings (plans, elevations, sections, details)
• Competent with photometric calculation tools and IES files (AGI32, LightStanza, Photometric Toolbox)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good research, presentation, prioritization, and time-management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator preferred

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in lighting, architecture, architectural engineering, theatre/entertainment lighting, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Entry-level to up to 3–4 years’ experience designing lighting systems and performing lighting calculations
• Prior hands-on lighting design or mock-up experience is a plus
• Membership or involvement with IALD or IES is desirable but not required

Location & Work Model

This is a hybrid role requiring in-office attendance at least 3 days per week. Office locations may include Austin, TX; Washington, DC; Chicago, IL; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; or Denver, CO. Final work location will be determined by the confidential client and based on business needs.

Compensation & Benefits

• Estimated compensation (where provided): $52,943 per year (estimated)
• Benefits for regular employees (full- and part-time, typically 20+ hours/wk) may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), employee stock purchase, tuition reimbursement, professional membership coverage, paid holidays, vacation accrual, sick leave (per state/local law), and short- and long-term disability options.
