Entry Level Chemistry Grad
The Laboratory Technician Gas Analysis performs routine and specialized analytical testing of medical and specialty gases using advanced instrumentation such as gas chromatography and FTIR spectroscopy. What You’ll Do
- Perform routine and non-routine analytical testing of medical and specialty gas samples to detect impurities and verify product quality.
- Operate and maintain gas chromatography (GC/GC-P) systems and run analyses using Galaxy/Compass control software.
- Use FTIR spectrometers and CO analyzers to identify and quantify gas components and trace impurities.
- Connect and disconnect gas cylinders to ventilated cabinets and analytical systems; each cylinder hook-up/removal may take up to 30 minutes.
- Enter, review, and maintain analytical results and records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Perform routine calibration, verification, and basic maintenance on analytical instruments.
- Prepare gas mixtures and pure gases using partial pressure and gravimetric techniques following established procedures.
- Process cylinders for shipment (painting, labeling, valve prep) and generate certificates of analysis.
- Maintain accurate quality control documentation to meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
- Follow safe handling practices for hazardous and toxic chemicals; participate in required safety training.
- Troubleshoot instrument and chromatographic issues using knowledge of peaks and instrument control.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, OR at least 2 years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience.
- Experience performing chromatography-based analyses (GC/GC-P) and basic instrument maintenance.
- Practical familiarity with spectroscopic techniques (FTIR) and CO analyzers, or strong ability to learn.
- Experience with or aptitude for Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Understanding of quality control principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Ability to follow strict safety procedures when handling toxic or hazardous chemicals.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills.
- Physical ability to handle, move, and load gas cylinders safely.
- Willingness to work DuPont rotating shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays).
Preferred / Additional Qualifications
- Prior toxic chemical handling experience and training.
- Experience with Galaxy/Compass GC control software or similar GC control systems.
- Knowledge of chromatographic peak characteristics and data interpretation.
- Exposure to partial pressure and gravimetric techniques for gas mixing.
- Entry-level graduates with lab internships or coursework that included chemical handling are encouraged to apply.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and ability to work within defined procedures.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Fully onsite role in a clean, organized analytical chemistry laboratory.
- Regular handling of hazardous and toxic chemicals — strict adherence to PPE and safety protocols required.
- The facility operates 24/7 on a DuPont rotating shift schedule (structured rotations between days and nights; schedule published in advance).
- This is a hands-on, physical role that includes cylinder handling, instrument operation, and occasional lifting/moving of equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: $28.00 per hour.
- Employment type: Contract to Hire — full-time (CONTRACTOR / FULL_TIME).
