What You’ll Do

This Contract-to-Hire Laboratory Technician (Food Science) role supports quality control and product testing in an onsite laboratory in Kansas City, MO. You will gather and test samples on schedule, record results in SAP, maintain retains, and support sample shipping and special investigations. Typical duties include:

  • Gather and test samples within expected time frames.
  • Enter test results into SAP and maintain required retains.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and legible test records per lab policy.
  • Perform routine cleaning and housekeeping of the laboratory and equipment.
  • Assist with minor laboratory equipment troubleshooting and basic maintenance.
  • Prepare and ship samples to external laboratories as requested.
  • Support testing and analysis for special projects and nonconforming product investigations.
  • Help maintain and update standard laboratory procedures.

Who We’re Looking For

This position is suitable for entry-level candidates and new graduates with academic laboratory experience who are eager to learn hands-on QC lab work in food science.

Essential qualifications and attributes:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or a related field.
  • Entry-level candidates with strong academic chemistry lab experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical ability.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with quality control processes and laboratory best practices (GMP, QA).
  • Working knowledge or exposure to titration, viscosity, pH measurement, HPLC, GCMS.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.

Additional helpful skills and experience:

  • Proficient with computers — word processing, spreadsheets, and lab databases.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with wet chemistry and common lab instrumentation (e.g., Braebender, AntonPaar, Variomax, Bruker NIR).
  • Comfortable using analytical balances, moisture balances, pipettes, ovens, mixers, stir plates, and other routine lab tools.

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay range: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour. Individual pay within this range will depend on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
