What You’ll Do
The Confidential Client is hiring a Laboratory Scientist (MLS / CLS / MT) for an evenings chemistry shift. In this role you will perform complex clinical laboratory testing, help maintain quality and accreditation standards, and provide timely results to support patient care.
- Perform laboratory chemistry and related tests following established procedures and protocols.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and validate automated and manual lab instruments.
- Execute and document quality control and follow quality assurance guidelines.
- Participate in maintaining CAP, The Joint Commission, and other required accreditation standards.
- Assist with training and mentoring laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
- Maintain laboratory supplies, inventory, and proper documentation.
- Perform specimen collection and processing, including phlebotomy, as applicable.
- Provide clear, professional customer service to internal and external clinical teams.
- Complete other duties as assigned to support the laboratory and patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Entry-level Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) graduate or equivalent experience as described below.
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science plus graduation from an NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate program. Alternatively, a Biological Science degree with 5+ years of hospital on-the-job training in high-complexity testing may qualify.
- Current certification as MT / MLS (ASCP) or CLS (NCA) or AMT national certification, or equivalent ASCP categorical certification. New MLS graduates hired upon graduation must obtain certification within 6 months of graduation.
- Ability to work rotating weekends, holidays, and be available for on-call/ emergency coverage as required.
- Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work under variable workloads and stress.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Lab Scientist, or Medical Lab Scientist in a hospital setting.
- Master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (MSCLS) is a plus.
- Experience with chemistry analyzers and laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Familiarity with CAP/JCAHO accreditation processes and laboratory QA/QC programs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated salary (for reference): $75,155 per year (estimated).
- Hourly compensation grade ranges shown on source:
- Med Tech: $30.01 - $46.51 per hour
- Med Tech 3: $33.01 - $51.17 per hour
- Med Tech 4: $33.01 - $51.17 per hour
- Sign-on bonus: $7,500 for offers accepted by October 31, 2026 (terms and conditions apply).
- Actual offers will be based on relevant experience, credentials, and qualifications.

Schedule & Location
- Evenings shift (rotating weekends/holidays as required).
- Location: Richmond, VA. This posting is for work performed onsite at the Confidential Client’s Richmond facilities.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials; must follow universal precautions and use PPE.
- Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
- Physical demands may include lifting/carrying (0–100+ lbs.), pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and repetitive arm/hand movements.
- Ability to hear alarms, read instruments, and perform fine motor tasks (finger dexterity, color vision, near/far acuity).
