What You’ll Do

As a Laboratory Scientist (MLS/CLS/MT) — Blood Bank (Evenings) you will perform accurate, timely, and compliant clinical laboratory testing to support patient diagnosis and treatment. You will work collaboratively with laboratory staff, clinicians, and trainees while maintaining accreditation and quality standards.

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests and report accurate results according to established procedures
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and validate lab instrumentation and analyzers
  • Perform and document quality control and participate in quality assurance activities
  • Assist in training and educating laboratory personnel, students, and residents
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, supplies, and proper specimen handling
  • Perform specimen collection, processing, and phlebotomy as required by the work area
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (CAP, The Joint Commission, and other applicable agencies)
  • Support on-call, rotating weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science plus graduation from an NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate program; OR a Bachelor’s in a Biological Science with 5+ years of hands-on high-complexity testing experience in a hospital laboratory (categorical or generalist certification required)
  • New MLS graduates hired on graduation must obtain certification within 6 months of graduation
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (MSCLS)

Licensure/Certifications

  • Required or preferred: Certification as Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by ASCP, NCA, AMT, or equivalent specialty/categorical certification

Experience & Skills

  • Entry-level MLS graduates are acceptable; prior experience as an MT/MLS/CLS is preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and equipment troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent customer service and team-oriented interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work evenings, rotating weekends, holidays, and be available for call coverage

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced environment with fluctuating workloads; potential exposure to infectious materials and hazardous substances
  • May require occasional travel to off-site locations and exposure to varying environmental conditions
  • Regular use of personal protective equipment and adherence to infection control policies

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to listed weights, stoop, kneel, climb, balance, and bend
  • Manual dexterity, fine motor skills, color vision, and visual acuity (near/far)
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, and perform repetitive arm/hand movements; hear alarms and communicate clearly

Mental / Sensory / Emotional

  • Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a noisy or interrupt-driven environment

Compensation & Schedule

  • Evening shift (hours vary per assignment)
  • Compensation grade ranges (hourly):
    • Med Tech: $30.01 - $46.51 per hour
    • Med Tech 3: $33.01 - $51.17 per hour
    • Med Tech 4: $33.01 - $51.17 per hour
  • Estimated annual midpoint shown externally: $78,964 (estimated)
  • Actual salary offers will be based on experience, credentials, and qualifications

About the Role’s Population & Equity
