What You’ll Do

The Confidential Client is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) to work night shifts in the Chemistry laboratory. In this role you will deliver accurate, timely laboratory results that directly support patient diagnosis and treatment while maintaining quality, safety, and accreditation standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform moderate- to high-complexity chemistry testing per established procedures and standard operating protocols.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and validate lab instrumentation and analyzers.
  • Execute and document quality control (QC) and follow quality assurance (QA) procedures.
  • Process and manage specimens, and perform specimen collection/phlebotomy where applicable.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and manage reagent/consumable stocking.
  • Support lab accreditation and compliance with CAP, The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
  • Assist in training and mentoring laboratory staff, students, and residents.
  • Communicate results and resolve issues with clinical teams; provide strong customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Chemistry team and departmental goals.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science plus graduation from an NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate program; OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science with 5+ years of hospital on-the-job training performing high-complexity testing.
  • Current certification as MT/MLS (ASCP) or CLS (NCA) or AMT certification, or equivalent categorical ASCP certification.
  • MLS graduates hired upon graduation must obtain certification within 6 months of their graduation date.
  • Ability to work rotating weekends, holiday schedules, and be available for on-call/emergency coverage as required.
  • Entry-level graduates are considered; prior MLS/MT experience is preferred.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (MSCLS) is a plus.
  • Experience with instrument validation, QA/QC processes, and CAP/JCAHO standards.

Certification maintenance

  • Team members in technical roles must comply with credential maintenance (CE hours) as required by certifying bodies unless exempt under prior rules.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Working environment and physical demands:

  • Night-shift schedule with periods of high volume and variable workload.
  • Potential exposure to human blood and other potentially infectious materials; universal precautions and PPE use required.
  • May require travel to off-site locations occasionally.
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting/carrying (ranges up to 100+ lbs. depending on tasks), stooping, bending, repetitive hand/arm movements, and fine manual dexterity.
  • Sensory and cognitive demands include color vision, hearing alarms/phones, reading and clear written/verbal communication, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay and incentives (estimates provided by the source posting):

  • Estimated annual: $74,013 (estimated).
  • Hourly compensation ranges by pay grade:
    • Med Tech: $30.01 - $46.51 per hour
    • Med Tech 3: $33.01 - $51.17 per hour
    • Med Tech 4: $33.01 - $51.17 per hour
  • Sign-on bonus: $7,500 sign-on bonus for offers accepted by October 31, 2026 (terms apply).

Actual offers are based on relevant experience, credentials, and qualifications. Benefits and additional compensation details will be provided by the Confidential Client during the hiring process.

  • Location: Richmond, VA (Night shift)
  • This is a full-time, night-shift role supporting clinical chemistry testing at Confidential Client facilities.
