What You’ll Do
As a Laboratory Assistant I supporting parasitology research and insect husbandry for a confidential client, you will:
- Assist the laboratory team with insect rearing activities and daily lab maintenance.
- Support insect husbandry tasks and perform repetitive husbandry duties independently once trained.
- Contribute to parasitology research operations, including reagent preparation, consumables stocking, cleaning, and routine assay steps.
- Maintain lab equipment, manage schedules and supplies, and place orders as needed.
- Receive, store, and properly dispose of laboratory materials in accordance with protocols.
- Operate automation equipment and laboratory software with minimal supervision over time.
- Follow safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and Good Scientific Practice standards.
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently and reliably with minimal supervision.
What We’re Looking For
- College coursework in biology or equivalent (associates or bachelors-level preferred). Advanced degrees (MS/PhD) are not considered for this role.
- 2+ years of laboratory experience in a research company or academic institution.
- 1+ years of hands-on experience maintaining insect or ectoparasite colonies in a vivarium or insectary.
- Demonstrated aseptic technique and careful, detail-oriented lab practices.
- Reliable work ethic and ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well within a diverse team.
Compensation & Details
- Compensation: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
- Employment type: Contract (Full-time schedule; 40 hours/week)
- Work model: Onsite — Athens, GA
