Responsibilities

The Labor Relations Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to the Labor Relations team at our Confidential Client. This entry-level role helps keep labor relations operations running smoothly in a large, unionized healthcare environment.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the Labor Relations office: answer phones, respond to inquiries, and direct callers or visitors.
  • Schedule grievance hearings, labor-management meetings, arbitration sessions; coordinate logistics and prepare materials.
  • Collect supporting evidence from management, review documents, and redact patient identifiers to protect confidentiality.
  • Maintain electronic and paper filing systems for contracts, grievances, and labor documentation.
  • Assist with tracking grievances and disciplinary actions; update tracking spreadsheets and department calendars.
  • Prepare routine correspondence, meeting notes, reports, and negotiation packets as directed.
  • Support investigations of employee issues and document follow-up and outcomes.
  • Coordinate messenger/mail services for time-sensitive labor relations materials.
  • Perform general office duties including photocopying, scanning, data entry, and office-supply inventory.
  • Complete assigned Labor Relations projects such as year-end data reports.
  • Occasional travel between hospital campuses may be required.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or some college coursework in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.
  • 1–2 years of clerical or office support experience; experience in a hospital or unionized setting is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with HR or case-management systems preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear written/verbal communication.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally and with discretion.
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with provisions of collective bargaining agreements is helpful.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $17.29 - $25.94 hourly (paid consistent with New York City salary transparency requirements). Actual pay depends on experience, education, and operational need. This range does not include bonuses, differentials, or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Location & Travel

  • Primary location: Manhattan, NY (on-site). Occasional travel between hospital campuses may be required.
