What You’ll Do

This onsite, hands-on Lab Technician role supports confidential client operations in medical and specialty gas analysis. You will perform routine and non-routine analytical testing, operate and maintain instrumentation, and document results to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance. This is a Contract-to-Hire position based in Waverly, TN.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing of gas samples using gas chromatography and spectroscopic methods to detect impurities and verify product quality.
  • Connect and disconnect gas cylinders to analytical systems in ventilated cabinets; run analyses and monitor results (cylinder set-up may take up to 30 minutes per sample).
  • Operate and maintain GC/GCP-type gas chromatography systems and use Galaxy/Compass GC control software.
  • Use FTIR spectrometers and CO analyzers to identify and quantify gas components and trace impurities.
  • Upload, review, and maintain analytical results and records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Perform routine calibration, verification, and basic maintenance of analytical instruments.
  • Prepare gas mixtures and pure gases using partial pressure and gravimetric techniques per established procedures.
  • Test and certify incoming raw materials and prepare cylinders for shipment, including labeling and generating certificates of analysis.
  • Maintain accurate quality control documentation in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Handle, move, and load gas cylinders safely and follow all applicable safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Troubleshoot analytical issues using knowledge of chromatography, peak characteristics, and instrument control.
  • Participate in required safety training and help maintain a safe, compliant laboratory environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering OR a minimum of 2 years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience.
  • Experience working in a chemistry/analytical lab environment with chemical handling.
  • Ability to perform chromatography-based analyses and operate GC/GCP-type systems.
  • Proficiency, or ability to learn, Galaxy/Compass GC control software and common LIMS platforms.
  • Familiarity with spectroscopic techniques (FTIR) and CO analyzers for gas analysis.
  • Understanding of quality control principles and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail and good documentation practices.
  • Ability to work a DuPont rotating schedule (days/nights/weekends/holidays) and lift/move gas cylinders as required.

Preferred / Additional Skills

  • Prior experience handling toxic or hazardous chemicals safely.
  • Experience preparing gas mixtures using partial pressure or gravimetric methods.
  • Background as a laboratory technician, chemical engineer, or similar technical role.
  • Strong analytical thinking and independent problem-solving within established procedures.
  • Effective collaborator in fast-paced, quality-driven laboratory/production environments.
  • Entry-level graduates with internship or school-based chemical handling experience are encouraged to apply.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Work is performed in a clean, organized chemistry laboratory using advanced analytical equipment (GC/GCP systems, FTIR, CO analyzers, LIMS).
  • The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, PPE, and regulatory standards due to regular handling of hazardous materials.
  • Schedule follows a DuPont rotating pattern to provide 24/7 coverage; rotations between day and night shifts include weekends and holidays. Rotations are published in advance.

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay range: $28.00 per hour.
  • This is a Contract-to-Hire position. Final compensation within the listed range will depend on qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors.
