Position Overview
Confidential Client (Scientific & QA) is seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician for a night-shift role (12-hour nights) on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. This is an entry-level lab position that supports Quality operations, including microbiological and chemical testing, finished-product checks, data entry, and routine laboratory maintenance.
Shift & Location
This position works 12-hour nights (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM) on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule and includes every-other-weekend coverage (Friday–Sunday). Location: Dexter, NM (on-site).
What You’ll Do
The Laboratory Technician performs routine analytical and microbiological tests and supports the Quality team to ensure products meet specifications and food-safety requirements.
- Operate laboratory testing instruments (moisture/solids, protein, fat, pH) and Foss analytical equipment as assigned.
- Perform microbiological plating and evaluate results per procedures.
- Conduct sensory evaluations on finished products and record outcomes.
- Complete laboratory worksheets, logs, and daily reports accurately and timely.
- Prepare solutions and media required for testing.
- Perform daily quality line audits and in-process testing on the plant floor as assigned.
- Communicate results confidentially to supervisors and Quality Assurance management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked lab area.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and all safety procedures.
- Identify and escalate unusual results, product defects, or unsafe conditions.
- Assist with calibrations, special studies, and other project work as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience required.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting is required.
- Ability to operate basic lab instrumentation and follow standard test methods.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with basic computer tools (Microsoft Word and Excel).
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

- Most of the workday (approximately 100%) is spent standing; some tasks require sitting to count plates and use a computer.
- Work frequently involves walking on concrete and tile surfaces; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Tasks may require pushing/pulling small items, using a dolly, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting, reaching overhead, and climbing a small ladder or footstool.
- Tasks require grasping and fine manipulation for handling samples and lab instruments.
Food Safety & Quality Responsibilities
- Follow color-coded container policy and all production area protocols.
- Notify supervision of repairs or adjustments that could affect quality or food safety.
- Identify, document, and help control nonconforming product until corrective action is taken.
- Support Company, Customer, and Government requirements and standards as prioritized.
Compensation & Benefits
Estimated salary: $62,198 per year (estimated). This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
