What You’ll Do

  • Implement high-quality, standards-aligned Kindergarten instruction using the school's approved curriculum, mapping lessons to South Carolina Kindergarten standards across ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Deliver explicit, systematic early literacy and phonemic-awareness instruction (print concepts, phonological skills, alphabet recognition, letter-sound correspondences) to develop confident decoders.
  • Teach foundational number sense and early math (counting, subitizing, numeral writing, basic addition/subtraction) using manipulatives and concrete materials.
  • Design active-learning centers and daily routines that develop fine motor skills, gross motor coordination, spatial awareness, and executive-function skills (following multi-step directions, organizing).
  • Proactively teach social-emotional skills and school-readiness behaviors — emotional regulation, collaborative play, conflict resolution — using trauma-informed, non-shaming approaches.
  • Administer beginning-, mid-, and end-of-year readiness screeners and maintain formative tracking to differentiate instruction and measure readiness for First Grade.
  • Supervise and coach the Kindergarten Assistant Teacher: lead collaborative planning, assign meaningful classroom roles, and coordinate small-group rotations and supervision.
  • Partner with families through conferences and regular updates, sharing objective progress data, behavioral benchmarks, and practical home-learning strategies to support transitions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major, concentration, certification area, or substantial coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Montessori Education, or a closely related field.
  • At least 1 year of successful experience working with children ages four to six preferred; supervised student teaching, residency, or internship experience in Kindergarten/Pre-K considered for entry-level candidates.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate foundational content, implement IEP/504 accommodations, collaborate with speech and special education providers, and incorporate instructional coaching feedback.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for timely, empathetic family communications about student growth and behavior.
  • Must pass all required criminal background checks, fingerprinting, child-abuse registry screenings, and reference verifications.
  • Maintain valid pediatric/adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or obtain as required).

Nice To Haves

  • Current South Carolina Early Childhood Education teaching certification.
  • Master’s degree or Montessori Early Childhood credential (AMS/AMI).
  • Training in early-literacy approaches (e.g., LETRS for Early Childhood, Orton-Gillingham).
  • Experience with play-based, sensory-integrated, or inquiry-based early childhood models.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: $45,000 to $48,000 per year (commensurate with experience).
  • Full-time, permanent position with a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Meaningful professional impact shaping foundational learning experiences for young children.
  • School-assigned professional development in South Carolina Kindergarten standards, Science of Reading, structured early literacy, Montessori-inspired practices, and early childhood behavior intervention.
