Role Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a full-time Junior Software Engineer to join an expanding GovTech SaaS team in Lake View, IL. This entry-level role focuses on designing, building, and testing software that helps public-sector clients streamline licensing and regulatory workflows. You’ll work with experienced engineers and consultants to deliver reliable, secure applications.

What You’ll Do

• Analyze user needs and translate them into software features that optimize operational efficiency for public-sector clients.
• Design and develop application components and supporting databases.
• Analyze and design databases within application areas (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL or equivalent).
• Implement and run software testing and validation procedures, including unit, integration, performance, accessibility, and vulnerability testing.
• Collaborate in brainstorming and design sessions to propose practical, maintainable solutions.
• Participate in documentation, code reviews, and iterative improvement of engineering practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent professional experience.
• Knowledge of at least one relational database management system (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or equivalent).
• Ability to write efficient programs in at least one object-oriented language (Java or C#).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to identify complex problems and evaluate implementation options.
• Solid logic and mathematical reasoning to validate correct, complete, and secure solutions.
• Fundamental understanding of programming languages, component-oriented development principles, database management, operating systems, and computational processes.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
