What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join a small, mission-focused engineering team supporting defense customers in the Dayton, OH area. You will help design, build, and deliver modern web applications that enable search, visualization, and retrieval of mission data.
- Collaborate with end users and stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver usable features
- Develop responsive front-end applications using TypeScript and React
- Build and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI or similar)
- Integrate with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and implement server-side business logic
- Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and follow Git-based source control workflows
- Containerize services and manage development deployments with Docker or similar tooling
- Occasionally travel to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base or local customer sites for demos and deliveries
Who You Are / Required Qualifications
To be considered for this position you must meet the following basic criteria:
- U.S. Citizenship is required
- Ability to obtain a security clearance; active TS/SCI preferred but not required (sponsorship available)
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- 0–3 years of professional experience in software development
- Experience building web applications with React and JavaScript or TypeScript
- Experience developing backend services in Python
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS (SASS/LESS), and modern front-end tooling
- Practical experience using Git for source control
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team
Nice to Have / Preferred Skills
These are not required but will make you stand out:
- Experience with Python web frameworks such as FastAPI
- Experience with geospatial or web mapping libraries (e.g., Cesium)
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, or other ORM/database tooling
- Familiarity with container orchestration and CI/CD concepts
- Interest in working on defense or intelligence-related software
Work Location & Schedule
- This is a full-time, mostly on-site role based in the Dayton, OH area with work performed at a local office and occasional on-site visits to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as needed.
- Standard full-time schedule with flexibility depending on project needs.
