What You’ll Do

This is a 100% onsite, entry-level software engineering role based in Suffolk, VA. You will join a team supporting modeling & simulation (M&S) for defense customers. Under senior developer guidance you will assist with the design, development, integration, testing, and maintenance of simulation software used for training, analysis, and decision support.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing simulation software for military training and analysis under senior supervision
  • Support software development using established coding standards and best practices
  • Learn and apply M&S frameworks such as HLA (High-Level Architecture) and DIS (Distributed Interactive Simulation)
  • Contribute to scenario, model, and system-behavior development
  • Participate in software testing, QA, and verification activities
  • Help integrate models and simulations with C4ISR systems and external interfaces
  • Support creation and maintenance of technical documentation (design specs, test plans)
  • Participate in code reviews and follow version control and configuration management practices
  • Follow applicable security guidelines and software development standards

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 1–3 years of software development experience (internships and relevant academic projects count)
  • Basic proficiency in one or more languages: C++, C#, Java, or Python
  • Understanding of core software engineering principles and version control (Git)
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities; eagerness to learn

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Academic coursework or projects in modeling & simulation
  • Exposure to HLA, DIS, or similar M&S tools and real-time/constructive simulation concepts
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices and software testing fundamentals
  • Experience or interest in defense systems and C4ISR integration
  • Knowledge of databases and data structures

Working Conditions & Location

  • 100% onsite at the Suffolk, VA location (Confidential Client office / facility)
  • This role may involve working with controlled environments and following facility-specific security procedures
