Role summary
This entry-level field position supports pre-construction sampling and environmental fieldwork across the region. The Confidential Client is hiring a Junior Scientist / Geologist / Pre-Construction Sampler based in Williamsport, PA. You’ll gain hands-on sampling, documentation, and reporting experience while working with an experienced field team.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct water, soil, and air sampling, site inspections, and related field services independently and as part of a field team.
- Produce clear, legible, and legally-defensible field documentation (handwritten and software-based).
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain field equipment.
- Prepare project deliverables: client reports, landowner reports, summary tables, photo logs, and maps.
- Build professional working relationships with team members, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Follow all client and site safety protocols; promptly report safety concerns.
- Perform additional field and office tasks as assigned by the field services manager or project supervisor.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related discipline; internships, academic fieldwork, or 1+ years relevant experience are welcome.
- Reside in or near Williamsport, PA (local candidates preferred).
- Ability to work independently in remote areas with minimal supervision.
- Strong organization, time management, written communication, and client-service skills.
- Willingness to complete initial and annual OSHA HAZWOPER training and to use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and comfort operating a company vehicle (including 4x4) on varied road surfaces.
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain, cover long distances carrying field supplies, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Professional communication with private landowners, community members, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Outlook and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Teams) a plus.
- Familiarity with EQuIS, Survey123, ESRI Field Maps, or other field data collection software is beneficial.
- Pennsylvania DEP Qualified Visual Site Inspector certification (or equivalent) is a plus.
Location, Travel & Schedule
- Based in Williamsport, PA. Travel to project sites across Pennsylvania is required using a company vehicle.
- Fieldwork is outdoors year-round and may include occasional evening, weekend, or overnight work.
