Role Overview
Estimated pay (reported): $59,128 per year (estimated)
The Junior Project Manager supports planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of fabrication and construction projects in a heavy industrial/fabrication environment. This is an entry-level project management role that works closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Production, Quality, Procurement and client representatives to help ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Support planning and development of project scope, deliverables, resources, budgets and schedules in coordination with division leadership (Program Managers, Engineering, Project Controls, Operations, Purchasing, Safety, HR and Quality).
- Track project schedules, milestones, deliverables and action items to help ensure timely execution.
- Maintain positive liaison with customers and on-site inspectors; route customer concerns, complaints and change orders to the appropriate internal teams and follow up as required.
- Assist in reviewing customer specifications, drawings, contracts and technical documents to understand project requirements.
- Gather project status information from field personnel, shop supervisors and department managers.
- Support cost tracking by compiling expenditures, labor hours and budget data.
- Maintain organized project records (correspondence, submittals, change requests, project files).
- Identify opportunities to optimize division policies, practices and workflows.
- Identify project risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Prepare routine and ad hoc internal and external reports, meeting agendas, notes and action logs.
- Collaborate with other Project Managers and Program Managers on recurring items.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Maritime Management, Management or related field.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability and willingness to learn project scheduling and project management software.
- Strong organizational, time-management and written/verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable spending time in both office and fabrication yard environments.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, physical exam and background check.
Preferred / Desirable
- Previous experience in construction, fabrication or oil & gas preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent (if additional experience compensates for education).
Physical, Tools & Environment
- Physical: standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 25 lbs routinely and occasionally 50–75 lbs, bending, twisting, pushing/pulling, hearing and speaking.
- Tools/Equipment: standard office equipment; required PPE when in the yard.
- Environment: primarily office-based with ~30% of activities in a fabrication yard (temperature changes, outdoor exposure, dust, mud, etc.).
