Position summary

Confidential Client is seeking a Junior Process Engineer to gain hands-on experience supporting aluminum extrusion press operations and downstream manufacturing. This entry-level engineering role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers who want practical exposure to press performance, tooling, continuous improvement, and production troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.


What You’ll Do

The role focuses on supporting day-to-day extrusion operations, identifying process improvements, and working with production and maintenance teams to improve productivity, quality, and safety.

  • Provide engineering support for daily aluminum extrusion press operations.
  • Monitor press performance, cycle times, scrap rates, extrusion parameters, and production efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot extrusion-related issues (dimensional inconsistencies, surface defects, die performance, material flow).
  • Evaluate extrusion temperatures, press speeds, billet utilization, and other process parameters.
  • Work with production supervisors and operators to resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Participate in Lean, 5S, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist with equipment trials, process validations, and new product introductions.
  • Help develop SOPs, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance on recurring equipment issues and preventative actions.
  • Support ISO 9001 quality efforts and assist with corrective/preventive actions.
  • Identify safety hazards and support engineering controls and compliance with OSHA requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Entry-level candidates and recent engineering graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, mechanical systems, and engineering principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; ability to work collaboratively with production and maintenance teams.
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on manufacturing environment and to support multiple shifts when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship, co-op, or 1–2 years in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Exposure to aluminum extrusion, metal forming, or heavy manufacturing operations.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems, mechanical equipment, and industrial automation.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and manufacturing KPIs such as OEE, scrap, downtime, and productivity.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Work in both office and industrial manufacturing settings.
  • Regular exposure to production equipment, elevated temperatures, noise, and moving machinery.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and navigate manufacturing areas for extended periods.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Schedule flexibility may be required to support production across multiple shifts.

Compensation (Estimated)

  • Estimated salary: $62,338 per year (estimated). Final compensation will be determined by the Confidential Client and complies with applicable federal and state employment laws.

Performance Expectations

Success will be measured through contributions that include improving press efficiency and throughput, reducing scrap, identifying and helping eliminate root causes of downtime, supporting process improvement projects, maintaining quality standards, and promoting safe work practices.
