Overview
This listing is for an entry-level / junior role combining Java microservices development with data-analyst–focused work. Our confidential client in the IT industry is hiring a Junior Java Microservices Engineer who will help build and maintain Java-based microservices and also support data analysis and dashboarding tasks. This role is based in Pimmit, VA and is full-time.
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to design, development, and maintenance of Java-based microservices (Spring Boot, REST APIs).
- Implement and own backend features, integrations, and automated tests.
- Write and optimize SQL queries to support analytics and reporting.
- Build and maintain lightweight data pipelines or ETL tasks to feed dashboards and BI tools.
- Produce clear visualizations and dashboards (e.g., in Tableau, Power BI, or similar) to communicate KPIs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, QA, and data stakeholders) to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot production issues and participate in on-call rotations as needed.
- Follow best practices for version control (Git), CI/CD, and containerized deployments.
Qualifications
Minimum (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics or equivalent experience — recent graduates encouraged.
- Hands-on experience with Java and familiarity with microservice architecture (coursework, projects, internships accepted).
- Basic SQL proficiency and experience producing queries for reporting or analysis.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and web service concepts.
- Comfortable producing simple dashboards or visualizations to explain data.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
- Experience with Spring Boot, Maven/Gradle.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Comfortable with a scripting language (Python, Bash) for data tasks.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, unit/integration testing, and logging/monitoring tools.
- Any internship, coursework, or portfolio work demonstrating data analysis or visualization projects.
