Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Junior Java Developer (entry-level) with data engineering interest to join their Sunnyvale, CA team. This role focuses on Core Java and Spring Boot development, with exposure to microservices, SQL, and foundational cloud/DevOps and data-engineering concepts. The position is full-time and ideal for recent CS/Engineering graduates, career-changers, or candidates with limited commercial experience who are ready to learn and grow in production software environments.


What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to backend services using Core Java and Spring Boot.
  • Implement and maintain RESTful microservices and APIs.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries and work with relational databases.
  • Support basic data engineering tasks and collaborate with data teams (ETL basics, data validation, simple pipelines).
  • Participate in code reviews, debugging sessions, and testing (unit/integration).
  • Work with engineers and mentors to learn cloud/DevOps fundamentals and apply best practices.
  • Complete assigned project-style work to demonstrate practical, production-like experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver clean, testable Java code using Spring Boot and standard design patterns.
  • Assist in designing and documenting microservice interfaces and data models.
  • Troubleshoot defects and participate in triage and resolution.
  • Follow agile practices: attend stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Learn and apply data-structure & algorithm fundamentals (DSA) to improve code quality and interview readiness.
  • Engage in mentoring, mock interviews, and skills-building activities as part of a development plan.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent experience — recent graduates encouraged to apply.
  • Practical knowledge of Core Java.
  • Familiarity with Spring Boot and building REST APIs.
  • Basic SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
  • Interest in microservices architecture and foundational cloud/DevOps concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn through hands-on projects.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

  • Coursework or personal projects demonstrating Java + Spring Boot applications.
  • Exposure to data engineering concepts (basic ETL, data validation, simple pipelines).
  • Participation in coding challenges, open-source projects, or internships.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD basics.
  • Certifications or coursework relevant to Java, cloud fundamentals, or data engineering.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $78,000 - $127,000 per year (position located in Sunnyvale, CA).
