Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Junior Java Developer / Data Scientist to join their IT team in Greenwood, WA. This is a full-time role focused on hands-on coding, data analysis, and helping productionize ML/analytics solutions. The role is ideal for recent CS/Math/Statistics grads, career switchers, or candidates with certificate-driven training seeking mentorship and real-world experience.
What You’ll Do
- Work on Java-based applications and contribute to backend services and integrations.
- Support data science tasks: data cleaning, exploratory analysis, model training, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with engineers and data teams to productionize models and data pipelines.
- Write clean, testable code and participate in code reviews.
- Help design and implement data processing workflows and ETL components.
- Learn and apply best practices for model deployment, monitoring, and versioning.
- Communicate technical ideas clearly to peers and non-technical stakeholders.
Who We’re Looking For (Minimum Requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, or related field — or equivalent practical experience.
- Practical experience with Java (coursework, projects, internships, or self-directed learning).
- Basic familiarity with data science tools and concepts (Python or Java for data tasks, statistics, model evaluation).
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering fundamentals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a team environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. for Confidential Client.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Python, pandas, scikit-learn, or similar data libraries.
- Exposure to ML concepts: supervised learning, evaluation metrics, feature engineering.
- Familiarity with SQL and data engineering fundamentals.
- Knowledge of REST APIs, cloud platforms, or containerization (Docker).
- Coursework or projects involving NLP, deep learning, or GenAI are a plus.
- Prior internship, open-source contributions, or portfolio projects you can discuss in interviews.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $82,000 — $136,000 per year (range provided by Confidential Client).
- Full-time employment.
