What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Junior Java Backend Developer in Times Square, WA to join a team building microservices and data-focused back-end systems. You’ll work on Spring Boot-based services, REST APIs, and relational data stores while learning best practices for testing, version control, and scalable design.

• Implement and maintain Java services using Spring Boot and microservices patterns
• Build and document RESTful APIs and integrate with SQL databases
• Write unit and integration tests; participate in code reviews
• Use Git for source control and collaborate in an Agile team
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize backend components
• Contribute to technical discussions about design tradeoffs and system complexity

Core Responsibilities

• Develop backend features in Java (Spring Boot) for microservices
• Design and query relational databases (SQL)
• Create automated tests and support CI workflows
• Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies
• Produce clear technical documentation and implementation notes
• Work with product and data teams to deliver incremental value

Required Qualifications

• Practical experience programming in Java (coursework, projects, internships, or work)
• Familiarity with Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks
• Basic knowledge of REST API design and SQL
• Version control experience (Git)
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to explain technical tradeoffs
• Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Experience or coursework in microservices, Docker, or container workflows
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito) and CI tools
• Exposure to data-focused roles (data engineering, analytics, or data science)
• Understanding of data structures & algorithms (DSA) for interview readiness
• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, Math, Statistics, or relevant experience

Compensation & Employment Type

• Base salary: $82,000 - $127,000 per year (as listed)
• Employment type: Full-time
• Location: On-site / hybrid expectations will be set by the hiring manager in Times Square, WA
